St. David’s Healthcare Named #1 Best Place to Work

Third Consecutive Year

St. David’s HealthCare was named the number one “Best Place to Work” among large employers for the third consecutive year at the recent Austin Business Journal’s annual “Best Places to Work” event.

            “Being named a ‘Best Place to Work’ is a tribute to the staff, nurses, physicians, volunteers and hospital administrators at St. David’s HealthCare.  Our business is a team effort and this honor reflects that, “said Jon M. Foster, chief executive officer of St. David’s HealthCare. He added, “The collaborative environment at St. David’s defines our culture and enables us to provide excellent patient care.”

            The winners of the “Best Places to Work” awards were selected based on anonymous surveys completed by employees. Out of the more than 150 nominees, 50 winners were selected in three categories—small, medium and large employers. In the large employer category, 10 winners were named in rank order, with St. David’s Healthcare earning the number one spot.

            In its description of St. David’s HealthCare, the Austin Business Journal noted: “For St. David’s, making sure employees can communicate easily with management is key to retention and maintaining a nurturing company culture.” A program that helps new nurses advance into specialty care—one of the numerous educational opportunities offered at the St. David’s Institute for Learning—was just one of the initiatives that set St. David’s apart from other employers.”

            The “Best Places to Work” honor is among many awards earned by St. David’s HealthCare for creating an optimum working environment. All five St. David’s HealthCare facilities are recipients of the Texas Hospital Association’s prestigious Nurse-Friendly™ hospital designation. In 2008, St. David’s HealthCare was named one of the “100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare. That same year, St. David’s HealthCare received the Texas Award for Performance Excellence, the highest honor bestowed by the state of Texas based on world class quality measures.
